James Taggart was born in 2609 to terraforming engineers from Wick,
Scotland. Hailing from Ares Station, the self-sufficient space station built
in permanent orbit around Venus (Sol II), Taggart joined the Confederation
Space Forces just around the time the Confederation made first contact with
the Kilrathi, and participated in his first major engagement at McAuliffe in 2634. A stable pilot and strong wing leader, Taggart had a
reputation for being protective of his wing, naturally earning him the
callsign of "Paladin". Flying off the TCS Tiger's Claw, Lieutenant James
Taggart participated in a rearguard action in 2649, which would later be
known as Custer's Carnival, and became one of only two pilots to earn the
Gold Star as a result of that action.
He flew in the Vega Campaign, Operation Thor's Hammer, and the Firekkan Crusade, after which he joined Covert Operation's Special Operations Division. With his new Special Ops ship, the Bonnie Heather, Taggart led a rescue operation to Ghorah Khar to free the Firekkan hostages that Prince Thrakhath captured before evacuating Firekka.
Colonel James Taggart continued to work in Special Ops, and became the Chief Field Officer for Intelligence and Special Operations in the Enigma Sector. Together with Colonel Ralgha, Taggart first helped to orchestrate the rebellion on Ghorah Khar, and then helped to protect the planet, and the Confed space station Olympus in its orbit, from Imperial reprisals. When the Empire gained control of Deneb Sector, Colonel Taggart and Colonel Blair embarked on a number of covert missions to to combat the growing Society of Mandarins. They were able to discover the Mandarins' main headquarters and destroy it, along with the Mandarin Leadership, effectively ending the Mandarin movement once and for all.
When the False Peace was declared, Taggart participated in the covert operation to discover the Kilrathi Hari Fleet. Following that operation, he was next put in charge of the Temblor Bomb project, which was used to blow up the planet of Kilrah in the Victory Campaign. As is now known, this was a resounding success, and within three years James Taggart had become the Assembly Master for the Terran Confederation Senate Assembly.
